Maintenance Report 8-15-24:
So, to clarify a few things, I am not going in the office full time. I'm not retiring, and I have not had a second heart attack. So with that, I guess the only thing I can say is if you haven't heard it from me or my wife or Gail in the office, then I would consider it gossip or a rumor. So I'm more than willing to tell you the truth, but if you have someone come up to you and tell you you've heard this, that, or the other thing, I would consider it gossip or a rumor unless you've heard it from me. Any questions on that?
I'm not going anywhere. I am certainly not retiring. As a matter of fact, I'm sure Gail will let you all know. I am going to be going in the office part time to help out, and to learn a few more things, so I'm sure she'll tell you about that. So a couple things I just want to touch base with here this morning.
So last Thursday on Thursday morning between 6 and 8 o'clock, we have the compactor picked up, so it's not there. It could be gone for 2 hours. So if it's not there, please do not leave your garbage. We've asked we've asked kindly, we've asked professionally, we find people, and they still consider putting their garbage there. Now Gail came up with an idea that I I thought was very good.
We are going to put a 60 gallon trash can there for only when the compactor is not there or when the compactor does not work. Now I fully expect people to go ahead and use that 60 gallon trash can at other times. All is we can do is ask with the hope that people will honor our request. Makes sense? So I will put that out there today.
Last Thursday when they came to empty the compactor. From Thursday to this morning, the compactor was working but the door would not lock. So we believe we have that problem solved, so hopefully you won't have any issues this week going forward. Just a reminder when it comes to the compactor, leaves need to be bagged and nothing in there over 3 feet. I went in there this morning, opened up the compactor, and was smacked in the face with a bush that was probably 12 feet that was halfway put in there and halfway dangling.
So, again, all we can do is ask. People around here get upset with us when when we find them for doing things that we ask them not to do. I'm not sure why that is, but, so it's been requested by us and Sally to put squeegees in the men's and ladies bathrooms in the common area by the pool. I can tell you we tried that 2 years ago when I first came on in the maintenance department. I thought it was a great idea.
However, just like the remote that left us from the Roku in the laundry room, the squeegees left us. So we're gonna try it again to put some squeegees in there to see if they stay this time around. I'm not sure I'm very confident that that's gonna happen, but I'll try to be positive. I'm only going off of what I've experienced in the past. In the Veterans Memorial area, I replaced 14 bricks this weekend.
We have a total of 34 in there now. You're welcome. And there is a piece of granite, grayish in color, a light gray in color, probably maybe 12 inches by 16 inches that is placed in front of the boots and that are out there also. Since we met last month, we completed 19 work orders. We've had a few, and I know you're aware of this for those of you who had to have their water turned off.
We've had a few more water leaks, so we address those as they come. Unfortunately, there are times where we have to turn the water off, but I think we have it down pretty much now. I think the last one was only turned off for 45 minutes, so we've we've come a long way in that area. Over the next 2 months, which, you know, the next 2 months will probably fly by, and here we'll be looking at winter staring us in the face again. So I'll be installing some sun a sunshade in the dog park and also 2 solar lights for you folks that go to the dog park at night.
Over the weekend, we we took a look at those solar lights. I had 2 folks, 2 volunteers that were willing to help, and if you find or you have found 2 remotes that were laying on the circular table, that would be great if you could return them into the office. A couple other things going on over the next few months. Oh, one other thing I forgot. So we have 3 outside garbage cans.
We have one outside the office to the right. We have 2 inside the common area. One down by the men's and ladies' room and one outside the social hall. And we ask that you don't try to cram your personal garbage from your house in those compactors. So that's why we have a compactor.
That is for loose things when you come into these areas that you can drop them off. And then one other thing, over by the mailboxes, we have a junk mail container. Everybody aware of that? Please do not throw dog shit in there. Unfortunately, that is the case.
So, you know, you can put that in the other 3 or take it over. A lot of times, I empty that on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and when it gets rainy, it gets wet in there. And then I have to go dumpster diving in there to pull that stuff out, so it makes it a little easier. But when there is soaking, sopping, wet dog dirt in there, it's pretty frustrating. So a couple things I'll be doing over the next few months.
I'm going to pay some attention to the maintenance room. That place hasn't been, painted in at least 4 or 5 years. We're gonna empty it out, paint the floor. We now have all the river rocks gone from inside the common area that I wanted removed. I'll be replacing those with some red rocks that we have down in the maintenance building.
There's an old tree stump, that we lost a tree last year behind the mailboxes. We'll be addressing that, cutting that out of there, pulling it out. Two sheds by the tennis courts, I'll be addressing that. Some of the fascia on there is, warped. And then over the next couple of months, I'll be replacing some ceiling tile, in some of these rooms, the social hall, the laundry room, the pool pump room, and the fitness room.
